Coffee for Peace is an initiative led by the Colombian National Federation of Coffee Growers (FNC), supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and an alliance of coffee farmers and market allies created to develop, facilitate and promote the trade of traceable coffees from historic conflict zones in Colombia.
The success of the peace transition, after fifty plus years of violence, rests not only on the political will of the government of Colombia and former rebels, but also on the willingness of the international community to support Colombia economically during this transition. For over 13,500 smallholder farmers who live in post-violent regions of Colombia, this is an opportunity to leave behind the violence of the past, where production of illicit crops was the norm, and embrace a peaceful future through the production of specialty coffee.
The online coffee auctions of over 30 micro lots showcased producers from Cauca and engaged coffee buyers from around the world. The results were a spectacular with sales 4-6x above the commodity c-market price.
